2.What is the Atelier line?

SAINT JAMES l'Atelier is the story of Saint-James, the true one since 1889: 100% wool sweaters are knitted there, quite simply unique, thanks to the longevity of the knit. Families pass Saint-James sweaters from one generation to the next.

SAINT JAMES l'Atelier is also the world of sea crossings and stripes: Breton Striped Shirts are made in the workshops using unique know-how. It's all about proportion, balance, and of course, quality. The 16x8 stripe is distinctive to Saint-James.

SAINT JAMES l'Atelier consists of these iconic pieces (sweaters, Breton shirts, and coats) that are classic, authentic, timeless, and seasonless. Yet, each season, we reinterpret these classics always inspired by the sea, the bay of Mont Saint-Michel, which surrounds us, and this heritage of 130 years alive.

3.How do I take care of my SAINT JAMES products?

Pure new wool is naturally static. Unlike synthetic fibers, dust does not stick to it deeply. Simple brushing and your clothes will stay clean for a very long time.

Wool is alive. Let your clothes "breathe." In your closet, do not pack your clothes too tight. They will naturally resume their shape.

For washing, follow the care instructions on the product label.

Never put woolen clothing in your dryer.

The mesh can be steam ironed in position 2 of your iron. If you iron it dry, place a wet cloth between the iron and the garment to prevent it from getting shiny.

4.How long do products stay on the wishlist?

The products remain registered on your wishlist for 28 days.

5.What is a wishlist?

A wishlist is a list of your favorite items, which you may want to save for later reference. That way, you can view or purchase them on your next visit. 

6.What if the product I want to buy is not in stock?

You have the option of setting up an alert on the website. You will then receive an email to let you know as soon as your item becomes available again. Indeed, if the product is a victim of its success, our workshops will do their utmost to replenish it.

7.How do I search for an item?

You can use the internal search engine of this website. Enter the name or type of product you are looking for. For example, you can search for "sweater" and thus discover different filters that will allow you to refine your search.

The menu bar also gives you access to the main categories: Women, Men, Kids, and Accessories.

8.What are the different cuts available?

SAINT JAMES sailor shirts, fisherman sweaters, and raincoats are unique. Each model has its specific fit. You can find more details about the different fits we propose (slim, adjusted, straight, feminine, fitted, comfort etc) in the size guide.

9.How can I be sure I'm ordering the right size?

11.When do the striped tees go on sale?

Our Breton striped tees do not go on sale unless a specific style is phased out in order to be replaced by a new cut, in which case you will find remaining inventory available to purchase in the Sale section of our website.

12.What is the difference between the MERIDIEN and GUILDO striped shirts?

Both styles are made in our signature carded cotton, a heavyweight, yet breathable cotton jersey; however their cut differ in width and sleeve length.
On a size Medium, the MERIDIEN MODERNE Breton stripe shirt is wider with a ½ bust girth of 55cm across and sleeve length of 65cm, while the GUILDO Breton stripe shirt is 51cm wide and its sleeves 55cm long.

13.What is the difference between the GALATHEE II and MERIDAME II Nautical Stripe Shirts?

Both styles are tailored to women. They differ in material and cut.
The GALATHEE II nautical stripe top is made of soft cotton jersey and features ¾ sleeves. It's a year-round t-shirt. Please refer to the size guide on the product page to find your ideal fit. For long sleeves, go with MINQUIDAME (woman cut) or MINQUIERS MODERNE (unisex).
The MERIDAME II nautical stripe shirt is made of classic carded cotton with long sleeves. Its heayweight jersey makes it warmer and suitable to wear as a light sweater. Please refer to the size guide on the product page to find your ideal fit.

14.Which ones are the classic stripes?

We offer striped shirts for women, men and kids alike, in a selection of light cotton jersey, heavyweight carded cotton and anti-UV microfiber.

Our unisex stripe shirts MINQUIERS MODERNE, MERIDIEN MODERNE and GUILDO are old-time favorites. The GALATHEE II, MERIDAME II and GARDE-COTE III tops have been designed for women specifically and feature a fitted waistline. Kids can pick from children-size options of their parents marinieres in both light (MINQUIERS) and heavy cotton (MERIDIEN).

15.Where are the Saint James products made?

Saint James was incorporated in 1889 in Normandy, France but archives show that wool and knitting workshops have existed in the area since the Middle Ages. See our full story in the About Saint James section of the website.

To this day, knitwear and striped shirts are still produced in our facility in the village of Saint-James, France as indicated on the product pages.


1.How do I know the amount available on my gift card?

To check your gift card's balance, click on the link in the gift card confirmation email.

2.How do I use my gift card?

Gift cards are a form of payment. After placing items in your cart and choosing your delivery method, add the gift card number at checkout.

If the amount of your purchase is less than your card's value, you will be able to apply its balance against another purchase.

3.How to send a gift card to a friend/third party?

After purchasing the gift card, you will receive a confirmation email that you can send to the person of your choice.

4.How to order a gift card?

Go to the "Gift Card" page of our site. You can choose from denominations ranging from $25 to $500. Once you have made your choice of denomination, add it to your cart.

5.What is a gift card?

SAINT JAMES gift cards are cards ranging from $25 to $500. They are a form of payment and can be used to purchase any product on our website. The SAINT JAMES gift card is digital, and you will receive an email to print or send to the recipient of the gift card.

The card is valid for one year, can only be used on the website. You can spend the credit on your card in one or more installments.

We offer Free standard shipping for every order above $79. You can also choose Expedited shipping at checkout for a fee calculated based on the weight of the package and your delivery address.

1.When should I receive my order confirmation email?

The order confirmation email is sent to you as soon as your payment has been confirmed. If you do not receive anything after your order, remember to check your spam folder.

2.Do I have to create an account to place an order?

You do not need to create an account to place an order. You can checkout as a guest. However, creating an account makes it quicker to place an order by saving your profile information and address book. You can also track your order history in your account. 

3.My order is a gift. What are the gift options?

You can add a gift note and/or gift packaging to your order. The message is printed on a note card and placed in an envelope. The gift packaging consists of a branded box and tissue paper. 

4.Do I pay tax?

Sales tax will be added to orders shipped to New York State, as per current rates and State policies. Shipments to any other state will not include tax.

5.How do I cancel my order?

If for any reason you must cancel an order, please contact our customer service by phone (646) 422 1190 or email at Please note that we can not cancel an order after it has been shipped. 

6.How do I track my order?

A confirmation email including your order’s tracking number will be sent once your order has been shipped. You may check the status of your order by visiting the UPS website or directly from your account on

7.How will I know that my transaction has been accepted?

We will immediately email you an order confirmation – please make sure to add to your “safesender” list in order to prevent our communications from being blocked by spam filters.

8.Will my credit card be charged immediately?

No, your credit card will not be charged until your order is shipped. When you enter your credit card information and click "order now" on the final review page, we will give you an order confirmation number. You will also receive an email confirming that your order has been received within a few minutes. Another email will be sent to notify you when your order has been shipped and we have charged your credit card.

9.What are the online payment methods?

We accept the following: American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, PayPal, and ShopPay. Payments are secured by an SSL certificate. 

10.Will I get a receipt with my order?

Yes, you will receive an email receipt when you place the order and a printed packing slip will be included in your package when your order ships. It can be used to return merchandise. If you have created an account, you will also find your order history by logging into the My Account section of the website.

11.How do I place an order?

Click on "Add to cart" for each item you want to purchase. Click on "Shopping Cart” or “Checkout” to finalize your order.

12.Credit Card Security

Saint James uses the services of a third party to process credit card transactions. Saint James’ employees do not have access to your credit card information and no information is stored on Saint James’ server. Payments are secured by an SSL certificate.

5.How can I set a default address?

If you have an account, you can save several addresses and indicate one by default. You can update it at any time.

6.Can I add additional addresses to my account?

Simply go to your account in the "delivery address" tab and add a new address.

7.Can I modify the personal information (phone numbers, addresses, orders) in my account?

Your account allows you to access your order history and your address book. Your telephone number can also be modified in the address file.

8.What if I lost my password?

Yes, the visit is accompanied by a guide, whether in French, English, or Italian.

Yes, the visit costs € 5, but is deductible from any € 50 purchase in our shop next door.

The duration of the visit is approximately one hour.

5.When can we visit the atelier?

Visits to the atelier are by reservation only from Monday to Thursday, at 10:30 am and 2 pm. During school holidays (all zones combined), visits take place from Monday to Friday, at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm (possibility of additional time slots according to demand).

6.Can we visit the SAINT JAMES Atelier (manufacturing facility)?

You can visit our SAINT JAMES Atelier (manufacturing facility) in Normandy and, thus, discover the secrets of making a real sailor sweater, from knitting to the finished product. Come and meet artisans with excellent know-how.

All other orders are shipped out of our manufacturing facility in Saint-James, Normandy, France.
